Chieftain Productions is a full service production company specializing in documentary films on history, culture, and science. We strive for emotional and intellectual honesty and an attention to detail wrapped in a good story.

Chieftain produces high quality, thought-provoking films by letting compelling stories unfold naturally, whether it be a special needs hockey team learning to compete, or five high school teams engaged in a rigorous robotics competition, or a diverse group of  New Orleanians fighting to save their unique cultures.

Founded  by John Patrick King, Chieftain is a network of experienced creative professionals offering a wide spectrum of production services.  Chieftain’s team includes editors, producers, writers, directors of photography, and researchers skilled at all levels of production. Chieftain is based just outside of Washington, DC in Cabin John, Maryland.

 

John Patrick King, founder and President of Chieftain Productions LLC, is an award-winning producer and director of television documentaries.

John’s credits include:  C0-director, producer, and co-writer for “The Lost Battalion” which streamed on HistoryHit TV; Director, producer, and writer for “New Orleans Rising,” which aired on PBS via WYES-New Orleans; Director, producer, and co-writer for “Gearing Up: First Robotics,” which aired on PBS via KETC-St. Louis; and Co-producer for “Countdown to Ground Zero” which aired on The History Channel.

John previously served as Vice President for Development at Story House Productions, a leading non-fiction television company based in Washington, DC, and Berlin, Germany. His work has appeared in the United States on the Discovery Channel, The History Channel, Discovery Health Channel, and Court TV, as well as internationally. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the American Film Institute’s Silver Theatre and Cultural Center.
